Christmas through the eyes of a two year old.

Getting ready for Christmas has been an absolute wonder this year. Little One is so excited and really trying to get what this holiday is all about.

Here are a few snippets of conversations that have gone on in the past few weeks.

Last week we were going to a Christmas party. When we told Little One that where we were going he said: "Oh it's Jesus's birthday!" Of course, the only reason we'd go to a party would be a birthday party.

Right after Thanksgiving we were running a quick errand and it was dark. Our neighbor had an angel in his yard and Little One saw it. When he figured out that it was an angel he started singing "Joy to the World". I had never heard him sing the song - and was a little surprised. It's a moment I will forever cherish.

Today he was watching a Christmas DVD and they were singing "Away in the Manger". Little One burst into great big alligator tears. I wasn't sure why. Tonight he asked me to sing the "Baby in the manger song". I sang it and as soon as I sang "no crib for a bed" his little eyes welled up with tears. I think he has figured out that there's a baby and the baby doesn't have a bed. I'm going to have to figure out how to explain that.

And then there is the tree. As we were decorating, Hubs kept handing him ornaments and asked him to go put them on the tree. After he had gone to bed, I found a little cove in the tree that held a pile of all of the ornaments he had been given. Except for one. He came across an ornament that is plastic and looks like a upright bass. He has decided that is his guitar. He is now Murray from the Wiggles. And I had to play my "'papprayno" (piano). Forget the decorating of the Christmas tree. There was music to be played!

He loves nutcrackers. We have two amongst our decorations...and he has taken a real liking to them.

And Santa, well, "Santa is coming!"

Oh, I love the peek into his precious heart - what a treasure. We've been experiencing the wonder here too - more through the eyes of a four year old as the two year old is to busy, busy, busy to be still for more than two seconds!

Precious memories - I imagine you are like Mary - gathering up all these things and pondering them in your heart.

Love,
Monica

The tears for the baby with no bed left ME with tears in MY eyes:)

Andrew has totally gotten on the Santa bandwagon, along with rudolph too. It's been a hoot to see this Christmas through their eyes too.

When we put the tree/ornaments up, nate just kept "throwing" the ornaments at the tree and exclaiming, "ohhhhh." It was hilarious!

Miss you, can't wait to see you guys soon.

What a precious heart the little one has! How we need that sensitivity in our own hearts to the meanding of Christmas. He got it! Love you and can't wait to see you guys!

Oh, how sweet. I love that he's worried about the baby's bed.

My daughter has loved nutcrackers since she was little too. I try to buy her a nutcracker ornament every year for her collection.
